Kenya is very much a country of tradition and culture. Let us begin with the culture that defines the country – The Swahili way of life, which is a compelling force in the daily lives of its citizens. Swahili is a Bantu language spoken across East Africa. Its grammar and vocabulary make it easier to understand than most local languages. They include Kikamba, Kiswahili or Pokot, contributing much to Kenyan literature and poetry which makes kenya unique.

Tribe and religion still play a very big part in life as well as the arts. Arts such as dance and music, an expression of local culture, are widely represented among Kenya’s contemporary artists. Traditional music is performed at most weddings and during funerals – the most popular being the funeral dirge. Kenya has a variety of museums and galleries with important historical features.
